I hand-dyed a piece of white satin, making the left hand side darker to optimise the dragon shape - this was according to the client's wishes as the dragon was to spew fire in pursuit of the Pearl of Life (or is it Wisdom??). I scatter salt over the wet, dyed fabric to create a mottled look, which I exaggerated by washing the dried, fixed material and not ironing all the creases out. I then drew the design onto the dyed fabric within the specified 9" x 13" and tacked it onto a piece of wadding. The piece is machine embroidered and the padded effect is subtle but quite important when the light hits it, giving a pleasing texture. Looks terrific in the room it was intended for. |
